There are many ways you can help us help the homeless reclaim hope and get back on their feet. Before you decide how you want to help, we suggest that you watch this short video of a recent dinner so that you can see the hopeful faces of those on the receiving end of loving assistance.
How You Can Help
Your financial contribution will support everything we do, from providing hot meals to keeping the lights on. We accept cash, checks, credit cards, Paypal, and Venmo. You can make a one-time donation, or become a monthly sponsor. Thank you!
Donate Items to Our Thrift Store
If you are de-cluttering your home, we will gladly accept your gently used household items, clothing, etc, and put them up for resale at our Texoma Family Thrift store. Proceeds from sales go directly to shelter operations. For a list of items we do and don’t accept, and for hours of operation, please click here:
If you are able to donate time, we will gladly put you to work! We welcome volunteers to do everything from helping sort donations to the Thrift Store to teaching financial literacy classes to our residents. If you have a special skill, or if you’d like us to find the right spot for you, CONTACT US …we love new team members!
Buy Stuff through Amazon
You read that right! All you have to do is buy something through Amazon Smile, and Amazon will contribute 0.5% of the purchase amount to the charity of your choice (this comes directly from Amazon to TFS, and is not added on to your cost). Click on the tab, select Texoma Family Shelter from the drop down list of eligible charities, and you’re all set. From now on, with every purchase you make will help the homeless. Adopt A Room
This is a wonderful opportunity for your church, business, or club to make a difference. By “adopting” a sleeping room, you agree to keep it in great condition for one year, so that the residents feel valued in their temporary quarters. You agree to paint the room as needed, provide items such as towels, pillows, comforters, window treatments, and occasionally mattresses. If you would like to Adopt A Room but don’t have the time to put in the work, we will also accept a financial donation for the same sponsorship, and our volunteers will keep the room in tip-top shape on your behalf. In appreciation, TFS will proudly display your organization’s name on a plaque on the door to “your” room, and also provide you with a Certificate of Appreciation. Please CONTACT US for more information and to get started…your room awaits!
Include TFS in Your Will
A charitable bequest to TFS involves putting a note in your will that designates part of your estate — money, property, stocks, etc — to go to TFS after your death, allowing you to establish a legacy of philanthropy that will help support our mission for generations to come. There are several different ways to set up a charitable bequest. A “specific bequest” is most common, whereby you designate an amount of money or a specific item to go to TFS. Another option is a “residuary bequest,” whereby your donation will be made only after your other debts and expenses are all paid off. Finally, there is a “contingent bequest,” which only allows for the bequest to go to TFS if your named beneficiaries have died before you, or if they waive their right to inherit from you (ie TFS is next in line in case they are no longer living when you die). We can help with the legal paperwork; please CONTACT US!
Donate Real Estate
Our shelter began with a donation of real estate in 1987, and after all these years, that donation is still our current location! If you have property that you would like to donate, there are multiple ways it could benefit the shelter, whether it’s converted into transitional housing or sold in order to help fund shelter operations. Please CONTACT US, and we will gladly work with you on the transfer.
